What to Expect. How to Plan.
From Floor Tile to Custom Cabinetry- How to Get the Kitchen of Your Dreams:
Your first step toward getting the
kitchen you long for is a visit to the Kitchen Art Showroom.
Here you’ll find a variety of choices in cabinetry styles,
finishes, and interior fittings. A showroom tour will include
an overview of cabinet construction (plywood vs. particleboard),
and cabinet styles (inset, 3/8" lip, full overlay, etc.,)
countertop options, backsplash ideas, woods and finishes,
along with special touches.
If your project is a remodeling we’ll make an appointment for one of our designers to
visit your home. A site visit helps the designer get a feel for your personal style and the fundamental style and
traffic patterns of your home.
In addition to measuring your space, the designer will sit with you and ask a series of questions that help focus
the development of your kitchen.
By taking a look at pictures you’ve collected, we can usually see a trend. For new construction, we will
make an appointment for you to return to the showroom with your architectural plans, pictures, etc. There we’ll
conclude the process we began at your home, this time with samples and resource materials handy.
Once the designer has gathered enough information we’ll create conceptual drawings. One or two floor plan
options will be supplied, usually with elevations. If the door style and finish has been decided, preliminary pricing
will be discussed.
You’ll be invited back to the showroom to review the designer’s plans and recommended
cabinetry/fittings. Your feedback at this stage is critical. This is when selection of door styles, finishes,
countertops will be “finalized.” This part of the process can go back and forth a few times, but don’t
worry. The goal is to get you the most beautiful and functional room you could imagine. Perfection takes time; we can be
patient and want to insure the results outshine your expectations. A little extra input at this point can make all the
difference.
Once all the elements are decided, final measurements are taken and the final design is reviewed one more time.
Many new construction measurements may change and in a kitchen layout, even a half inch can effect the layout.
It’s key we get this right.
When that’s done and signed off on, we ask for a deposit and place your cabinet order. Lead time is anywhere
from 6 to 8 weeks, depending on which cabinet line you choose. The cabinets are delivered to your site at which time
payment of the cabinetry balance due is required.
If Kitchen Art is supplying the countertops, we will coordinate with the installer to provide a template for stone
or solid surface tops or measure for laminate tops when all the bases are set. Countertops normally take 2-3 weeks to
be fabricated and installed. Again, we get 50% deposit (sometimes earlier than template date so material can be
ordered) and the balance upon installation.
By this point, you can’t wait to get things done! If necessary during your remodel, a temporary plywood
countertop with sink can be installed if you need it. This is normally taken care of by the installer.
With the countertop in place, the backsplash can be installed We have a great selection of tile but sometimes use
beadboard or metal depending on the area and your tastes.
That’s it. Typically you can expect a kitchen remodel to take ? to ? weeks.
For Bathrooms:
The planning and design process is similar as with kitchens. Once ordered, tile usually takes 1-3 weeks to come
in. Some plumbing fixtures take less, some a little longer. We do not install tile but work with several tile
installers whom we can highly recommend.
For Closets:
Our Storage Specialist will discuss with you the type of storage you need: Double hanging? Single hanging? How
many shoes? Sweaters? Etc. Do you want a belt rack? A valet pole? There are endless solutions for storing just about
everything: garments, shoes, toys, DVDs, CDs, books, etc. We’ll make sure you’re getting the components that
suit your space and your belongings.
Closet components are usually available in 2 to 3 days. Kitchen Art takes care of the installations which often
take only one or two days depending on square footage and the number of closets being installed, We ask for
90% deposit on with the balance due upon completion and your inspection.
Sometimes clients prefer wood closets rather than composite material. These are ordered from our cabinet
companies. Lead time and payment structure are same as for regular cabinet orders described above.
Planning Tips
Once you’ve decided to remodel your kitchen it’s natural for you to “zone in” on
everything kitchens. You'll begin noticing the cabinets or marble countertop in your favorite television show, tile or
flooring ideas in magazines as well as in other people’s homes. This is normal, and useful. The more you can
pinpoint what you like and what you don’t the easier it will be for us to help you translate those ideas into
reality.
One way to quickly pinpoint your goals for the new space is to answer question like these:
- What do you see as the primary goal for your remodel
- More
counter space?
- More storage?
- Simply a spruce up?
- What do you like/dislike about
your current kitchen?
- Who does the cooking?
- The clean up?
- What size is your family?
- How frequently do you entertain?
- What type of cooking
do you enjoy?
- Do you do a lot of baking?
